Indigenous Procurement Policy

Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy

The Australian Commonwealth Government spends billions of dollars on goods and services every year. In July 2015, a policy was introduced which formally commits the Commonwealth Government to a procurement target for goods and services from Indigenous businesses.

The Federal Government's 2020 Target

The Government have set a target that 3% of procurement contracts need to be awarded to Indigenous businesses and are stipulating that every Government portfolio must meets its target by 2020.

The policy is going to create substantial opportunities for Indigenous businesses and help drive financial independence and economic development in regional and remote Australia.

A Certified Indigenous Enterprise is a business that is 51% (or more) owned by Indigenous Australians, with accreditation by the peak body, called Supply Nation which maintains a list of all businesses that meet this requirement.
